🇹🇷A view of the magnificent Selime Monastery carved into the cliffs of Cappadocia

#Overseas travel I visited the hidden gem of Cappadocia, the Selime Monastery! This is the largest cave monastery in Cappadocia, and I was overwhelmed by its massive scale carved into a cliff. The monastery was built around the 8th century, and it is said that early Christians used it to hide from Islamic persecution and continue their religious life. As you walk around the inside of the monastery, you can imagine the life at that time as you can see various spaces such as the chapel, the monks' living space, the kitchen, and the stables, which are well preserved. In particular, the traces of the cross and murals carved into the rock walls made me feel the depth of faith. However, the rock stairs can be a bit steep and slippery, so comfortable shoes are a must! It takes about an hour by car from Goreme, but it was well worth it.
