Kunshing Walled Village in Gejing Village, Yangshan, Guangdong

Kunshing Walled Village, also known as Kunshing Wei, is shaped like a half-moon with seven courtyards, three sky streets, three main halls, four horizontal buildings, and seven doors on the front, covering nearly 3,000 square meters. In the late Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, Yang Denglin, the 33rd generation of the Yang family, moved from Meixian County in Meizhou to Libu to establish his home. Initially making a living by collecting firewood, he later sold rice and pork, opening the Kunshing shop. Through hard work and frugality, he began to acquire property. His descendants continued the family business, amassed wealth, and acquired a thousand acres of farmland. The construction of the walled village began during the generation with names containing the characters "Zi" and "Ying," and took over 140 years across seven generations to complete this massive project. The main building has five doors, with the middle one serving as the main entrance. Inside the main entrance are the entrance hall, courtyard, and ancestral hall, forming the center of the walled village. Corridors on both sides lead to the wing rooms. The horizontal buildings on the far left and right extend beyond the main gate, with a long rectangular courtyard in the middle where pig and cattle pens, washing areas, and toilets are concentrated. The protruding section of the right horizontal building served as a study and school. Between the semicircular rear section and the main building is a small arc-shaped open area. Nine groups of buildings are constructed along the arc, with each group consisting of three long rooms. Watchtowers are located at both ends and in the middle. These watchtowers extend beyond the outer wall and are three stories high. The walled village contains more than ten halls, seventy rooms, multiple bathrooms, seven pig and cattle pens, thirteen toilets, one rice-pounding room, totaling 108 rooms. Kunshing Walled Village is the largest residential complex in the Dongguan water basin area and the largest existing half-moon shaped Hakka walled village in the county. With its ingenious design and massive scale, the construction spanning nearly one and a half centuries is truly a surviving wonder. It is a key cultural relic site in Lianzhou City.
