Experiencing Thingyan Festival in Myanmar

#favouriteitinerary If you’ve heard about Songkran, Thingyan in Myanmar is very much similar and happens on the same days! They might even sound familiar because we both follow very similar teachings in Buddhism. People will play with water all around the city. It is an annual public holiday with very little shop openings. There are EDM festivals with International DJs invited. Although not in Thailand, Myanmar has a thing called “Man Dat” where people have pipes, set ups and music for people to enjoy (see 1st photo) It used to be a tradition where people built their own stalls with big banana leaves in front of their house but now it’s modernised to big festival-like places. My family usually go out for one day to play in the water with an open truck in Yangon (shown in photos). We usually go for Pyay Road since People’s Park is where the major “Man Dat” are located! We would queue up infront of these “Man Dats” to get sprayed by water. When we still got tourists before covid, tourists enjoyed this holiday too. If you haven’t been, do visit when it’s safe to do so and try Thingyan too!!
