Gulangyu island is off the coast of Xiamen City, Fujian provonce. The ferry to Gulangyu island (for non locals) sets off from the Songyu Ferry Terminsl in HaiCang district. Its easy to buy a ticket and theres a boat every 30 mins. Its about a 10 minute ride on the ferry till you reach NeiCuAo Ferry Terminal#passionpassport Gulangyu island is great for people who love history, photography, architecture, hiking or the beach. There are several colonial buildings with interesting architecture. The island was once an administrative hub for embassies and foreign companies in the region which flourished in the early nineteenth century. Many of the old mansions have been converted into hotels. If you're looking for some peace and quite then the south/south west of the island is for you. If you want to be close to the restaurants and shopping streets then you should stay in the north or center of the island where you would get great views of Xiamen Island. There are many restaurants and food stalls with food from all over Fujian province and beyond.
