Wei Baqun, a native of Donglan, Guangxi, and of the Zhuang ethnicity, joined the Chinese Communist Party in the winter of 1926. He was a distinguished son of the Zhuang people, an outstanding leader of the peasant movement, one of the leaders of the Baise Uprising, a senior general of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army, and one of the leaders of the Seventh Army of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army and the Right River revolutionary base in Guangxi. In the early morning of October 19, 1932, Wei Baqun was killed by a traitor in Shangchadong, Donglan, Guangxi, at the age of 38.
