East Lake Cherry Blossom Park

Wuhan's East Lake Moshan Cherry Blossom Park is said to be one of the three largest cherry blossom parks in the world (the other two are Hirosaki Cherry Blossom Park in Aomori Prefecture, Japan, and the cherry blossom park in Washington State, USA). Covering an area of 260 acres, the park has 10,000 cherry blossom trees. The first batch of cherry blossoms planted in the park was given to Deng Yingchao by former Japanese Prime Minister Kakuei Tanaka, and then Deng Yingchao gave them to Wuhan's East Lake. Most of the cherry blossoms were jointly invested and planted by China and Japan in 1998. East Lake Cherry Blossom Park is home to the largest number and concentration of weeping cherry trees in China. Varieties such as the weeping cherry blossom and the Yae Beni weeping cherry blossom are considered some of the most precious cherry blossoms. After visiting the park, poet Wang Xinjian wrote in a poem: "The shallow stream is clear and cold, and the path is lush and green. The pink clouds are better than brocade, and the fallen petals are like velvet. The fragrant flowers are like hairpins and phoenixes, and the graceful flowers are like jade dragons. I remember the swallows that came from the south, carrying the dye to the east."
