Wuhan Gude Temple. Located at No. 74 Shangpo, Huangpu Road, Hankou, Wuhan, Gude Temple was built in 1877 (the 3rd year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty). Construction began in 1921. Gude Temple is a rare example of a Chinese Buddhist temple that combines the architectural features of European and Asian religious buildings and incorporates the three major Buddhist sects of Mahayana, Theravada, and Tibetan Buddhism. It is considered a "great wonder of Buddhist holy sites" and "the greatest wonder of Chinese Buddhist temples," with high architectural, cultural, and historical research value. Before the Cultural Revolution, Gude Temple, Guiyuan Temple, Baotong Temple, and Lianxi Temple were known as the four major Buddhist temples in Wuhan. In 2012, Gude Temple was listed as one of the top ten scenic spots in Jiang'an District, Wuhan. It is a unique Zen building known as "the greatest wonder of Chinese Buddhist temples." In 2013, Gude Temple was listed as a national cultural relic protection unit.
