Summer in Western Sichuan: Choosing the Right Route is Key

Escape the summer heat in Western Sichuan, but don't just focus on popular spots like Huanglong, Jiuzhai, Seda, or Daocheng Yading. These places are often overcrowded, which goes against the idea of a relaxing vacation! For a true getaway, head into the mountains, avoid the crowds, and enjoy some peace and quiet! Here, we recommend a lesser-known, in-depth hiking route apart from Ge'nie and Changchuanbi: The Zimei-Gongga Trek on the southwest slope of Mount Gongga. This is an entry-level hiking route offering a pure outdoor trekking experience. The route passes through a beautiful seabuckthorn forest. 3. **Zimei Pass**: Featuring a large viewing platform, this spot is only 5km in a straight line from Mount Gongga, making it an ideal place to admire the mountain up close. 4. **Gongga Monastery**: Situated at the base of Mount Gongga's main peak, this monastery has a history of over 600 years. In autumn, on clear days, you can see the Gongga snow peak from here. A small trail leads into the valley and up a series of stone piles, taking about 1.5 hours to reach the closest point most travelers can get to the foot of Mount Gongga. 5. **Hechibu**: A scenic spot for viewing Mount Gongga, featuring flower fields and alpine lakes.
