I intended to go with a guide on my trip because being a solo female traveller in an unknown place I wanted some assurances around safety (and to just be able to enjoy the hike!). A huge thank you to the folks at the Ideal Bed and Breakfast - I wasn't a guest but had read a review for their accommodation mentioning a guide for Abaca village where the hike starts. I cold called in to their place and they were super kind and flexible to organise one of their staff, Knox, to take me. They even offered breakfast, and Knox made a packed lunch. The cost in total from their accom in Nadi was 160fjd, not including the fee paid to Abaca village (25fjd ea). Knox knows the tracks well and was a wonderful guide, pointing/picking out local fruits and plants along the way. Addit - The cost of getting lost is pretty high (literally - approx 750 fjd per person if the village needs to send people to search for you), so if in doubt, I highly recommend the guided version.
