Vilnius Cathedral and Lighthouse

Vilnius Cathedral, located in the heart of the Old Town, was originally built in the 13th century. After multiple reconstructions, it now showcases a blend of Gothic, Baroque, and Neoclassical architectural styles. Its white façade and 57-meter-high bell tower have become iconic features of the city's skyline. Inside the cathedral, visitors can admire the 16th-century fresco "The Coronation of the Virgin Mary" and the silver sarcophagus of Lithuania's first king. Every day at noon, the sound of the cathedral's bells resonates throughout the city. Connected to the cathedral is the lighthouse, which was originally an 18th-century defensive tower. In the 19th century, it was transformed into a Neo-Gothic bell tower. At its summit stands a golden angel statue holding a cross, overlooking the Neris River. Climbing to the top requires ascending 154 spiral steps, but the 360-degree observation deck offers breathtaking views of red-tiled rooftops, the ruins of Vilnius Castle, and the surrounding forests. The soft light at sunset makes it an ideal time for capturing panoramic shots of the city.
