The nickname 'Bridge of Sighs' was given because prisoners crossing the bridge would sigh at the thought of when they might see this beautiful place again. Casanova, known for his scandalous lifestyle, was also imprisoned here but is known as the first prisoner to successfully escape. There is also a bridge with the same name in Oxford, England.
