One-Day Trip to Uji & Fushimi Inari Taisha

From Osaka to Uji (53 minutes): JR Tokaido Line Osaka Station > JR Kyoto Station > [Transfer to Nara Line] > JR Nara Line Kyoto Station > JR Uji Station The Land of Matcha - Uji, Kyoto Byodoin Temple is the most popular attraction in Uji. Established in 1053, it was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994. The most famous building within Byodoin is the Phoenix Hall, which sits in the center of Aji Pond. The design on the 10 yen coin is actually the Phoenix Hall, highlighting its significance in Japan. The street leading to Byodoin, Omotesando, is very retro, filled with traditional Japanese buildings. If you are a matcha lover, this street is your paradise! Fushimi Inari Taisha is primarily for praying for business success, wealth, and wisdom. The highlight of Fushimi Inari Taisha is the Senbon Torii (thousands of torii gates). Each torii gate here is donated by worshippers. The number of torii gates at Fushimi Inari Taisha has surpassed ten thousand, and they are so densely packed that even sunlight struggles to penetrate. Donations of torii gates began around the Edo period (17th century), and over several hundred years, the gates have continued to extend endlessly. Travel Tips: Fushimi Inari Taisha and Uji are both on the JR Line, so no transfers are needed (both places also have Keihan stations, but transfers are required). It takes less than 30 minutes to travel between the two, making it convenient to visit both in one trip.
