On June 28, 1894 (July 30 in the solar calendar), Joseon established the Railway Bureau in the Public Works Office of the State Council. This was the first government agency related to railways in the country. On March 29, 1896, Morse was granted permission to build the Gyeongin Railway, and in July 1896, the Domestic Railway Rules (Ordinance No. 31) were enacted and promulgated, strengthening the will to build railways independently. Starting with the groundbreaking ceremony for the Gyeongin Railway on March 22, 1897, the Gyeongin Railway between Incheon and Noryangjin was partially opened on September 18, 1899, which brought about a major change in the transportation system of the Korean Empire. A high-speed railway refers to a railway that operates at a high speed of 200 km/h or more. Korea was the fifth country in the world to open a high-speed railway, following Japan, France, Germany, and Spain. The high-speed railway introduced by our country is the TGV model developed by Alstom of France, and it is known that the biggest selection condition was technology transfer. On June 30, 1992, the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Gyeongbu High-Speed ​​Railway was held near the current Cheonan-Asan Station, and in August 1999, the name KTX was given to the high-speed railway through a public contest. On April 1, 2004, the Korea High-Speed ​​Railway KTX opened. It was an achievement made possible by the blood and sweat of workers and an investment of 12 trillion won in 12 years since the groundbreaking. The high-speed railway brought about a transportation and cultural revolution that connected every corner of our country to a half-day living area, and contributed to the balanced development of the country and the revitalization of the local economy. It is receiving attention as an eco-friendly means of transportation that can reduce pollution such as exhaust fumes (CO2) and achieve the highest transportation and energy efficiency compared to the land area.
