Wat Phra That Nong Bua

Wat Phra That Nong Bua is a highlight of Ubon Ratchathani. The main attraction of Wat Phra That Nong Bua is the Phra That Chedi Si Maha Pho, also known by locals as 'Phra That Nong Bua'. It was built to commemorate the 25th Buddhist century in 1957, modeled after the Mahabodhi Temple in India, where the Buddha attained enlightenment. Inside the Phra That Chedi Si Maha Pho, or Phra That Nong Bua, is enshrined the Buddha's relics, housed in a gold-leafed stupa of Indian Pala art style. The stupa is square-shaped, carved with stories of the Buddha's 500 lives, arranged in rows separated by lotus petal patterns. Another highlight is the statue of 'Phaya Nak Chappaya Putta' (Rainbow Serpent), one of the four serpent families. This statue was recently completed and consecrated following the abbot's vision of a large rainbow serpent residing in the area. The statue stands 15 meters tall and 58.85 meters long, renowned for its beauty and the variety of its colors. The serpents in this family are known for their diverse colors, and most are female, hence their renowned beauty.
