Trat City Pillar Shrine

Trat City Pillar Shrine is located on Lak Muang Road, Bang Phra Subdistrict, near Wat Yothanimit. It is one of the important historical and cultural points of Trat.   The highlight is the architecture of the shrine, which is designed in the style of a Chinese pavilion, not the original Thai Pillar Shrine, making it unique and standing out from other places in Thailand.  ⸻ 🏯 History and beliefs • It was first built during the reign of King Taksin the Great when he gathered his troops in Trat with the intention of making it a center of spiritual unity and protection of the city according to Chinese beliefs.  • Inside, there is the City Pillar (tall) and the Shiva Linga (low) pillars, both of which are legendary and cannot be removed. Although the French during the colonial era tried to remove the pillars, they failed many times, which is famous.  ⸻ 🎨 Architecture and components • The main building is decorated with a roof and exquisite Chinese patterns. • Inside, there is the City Pillar Shrine (Sia Ueng Kong) with his favorite deities, such as the God of Fortune. (Cai Xing Ye) and the Earth God Kam Thiang have come to the center of Thai-Chinese faith and culture.   • The surrounding area has a wide lawn for people to worship or pay homage to ask for blessings for good fortune. ⸻ 📅 Annual activities and ceremonies • Every year on the "6th day of the 6th lunar month" (according to the Chinese calendar), there is a "City Day" or "Xie Gong Sai Yit" ceremony, which is the birthday of the City Pillar God. There is a merit-making ceremony, alms giving, and a joint Thai-Chinese ceremony.   ⸻ 🎯 Visiting advice • Opening and closing hours: Generally open around 06:00-20:00 • Admission fee: No fee • Travel: You can drive from Trat city for about 2 km. via the municipal road to the main road of the city. You will see the shrine clearly.
