A Fairy Tale on Water: The Scaligero Castle of Lake Garda!

Lake Garda (Lago di Garda), Italy's largest lake, nestles at the southern foot of the Alps with its crystal-clear waters embraced by rolling mountains. Formed by glacial melting, this breathtaking wonder is a beloved vacation paradise for Europeans. The most awe-inspiring sight on the lake is undoubtedly the Scaligero Castle (Rocca Scaligera)—a medieval fortress that seems to have emerged straight from a fairy tale! Built in the 13th century, it has stood tall for 800 years through wind and rain. This aquatic stronghold is surrounded by water on three sides, with only one side connected to land, making it appear like a floating fortress. Its towering turrets and distinctive swallow-tailed battlements (Merlo) showcase its formidable military defense. Once a crucial naval base controlling key lake routes, it held immense strategic importance. On our journey from Venice to Milan, we paused by Lake Garda. Standing on a peninsula stretching into the heart of the lake, we gazed at the castle's reflection shimmering in the azure waters—a scene straight out of a medieval painting. This "castle on water" stands as a witness to history, a glittering gem on Lake Garda, like a fairy tale world brought to life!
