Tengchong Travel | Qiluo Ancient Town

Qiluo Ancient Town is located in the south of Laifeng Mountain, Tengyue Subdistrict, Tengchong City. The village was formed during the Nanzhao period and has a history of over 600 years. It was named after the river in front of the village, which resembles a silk ribbon. Qiluo is a famous hometown of overseas Chinese and a historical and cultural village in Tengchong. The famous "Qiluo Jade" and "Duan Family Jade" originated in Qiluo Village. * The Legend of Duan Family Jade: There is a legendary story about Duan Family Jade. During the Republic of China, Duan Shengcai from Duan Family Lane in Qiluo worked as a servant for a Kachin mountain official in the Wild Man Mountain. The mountain official adopted him as a foster son and gave him a stepping stone in front of the gate as a souvenir. The stone was used as a horse hitching post at the gate. Over time, a piece of the stone was chipped off by horse hooves, revealing a small green spot, which caught Duan Shengcai's attention. It turned out to be a high-quality jadeite with stunning colors and outstanding water quality. As its value increased, the fame of Duan Family Jade spread far and wide, becoming renowned both domestically and internationally. * Li Family Courtyard: Among the many old houses in the ancient town, the most famous is the Li Family Courtyard in Laohu Lane. Built in the 15th year of the Guangxu reign of the Qing Dynasty (1889), it was the former residence of Li Xianhe, the richest man in Tengchong and the "Jade King" in the late Qing Dynasty. The entire courtyard is magnificently decorated with carved beams and painted rafters. Even at the entrance and on both sides of the second-floor patio, there are "jade bi screens" inlaid with large jade bi. According to "Xu Xiake's Travels," Xu Xiake once stayed for five nights at the former residence of Li Hubian in Laohu Lane, which is now the Li Family Courtyard. Today, the courtyard is home to the sixth generation of the Li family. * Caravan Courtyard: Every corner of the Caravan Courtyard exudes the deep imprint left by generations of caravan people who "traveled to foreign lands" for the economic and cultural development of Tengyue during the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. Merchants on the Ancient Tea Horse Road brought Central Plains culture and exotic religious culture, forming a unique "Tengyue culture" through cultural exchange.
