Roman History of Tarraco

Mediterranean Coast Tour of Spain ~ Tarragona (Region) The exhibits showcase the Romanization process that took place on the Iberian Peninsula. The museum, built in the 19th century, is the oldest of its kind in Catalonia. Most of its collections were recovered over the past 150 years during excavations at nearby early Christian cemeteries. The displayed items highlight the historical and architectural significance of the Roman city of Tarraco. Within its rooms, you can find a wide array of sculptures, mosaics, architectural artifacts, ceramics, household and military tools, amphorae, clothing, burial items, coins, and more. Many of these artifacts originate from areas within the city that house significant ancient monuments, such as the Roman theater, circus, amphitheater, and forum.
