My Nature Escape Above Taipei

#springitinerary Spending a day in Yangmingshan National Park was one of the most refreshing experiences I had in Taiwan. Just a short ride from Taipei, it felt like escaping to a different world filled with misty mountains, flower fields, and steaming volcanic vents. I visited in early spring, which made it even more magical with cherry blossoms and calla lilies in full bloom. I started my morning early, catching a bus from Taipei Main Station to Xiaoyoukeng. As soon as I arrived, I was greeted by a surreal scene, white steam hissing out from the rocky earth and the strong scent of sulfur in the air. The short trails here gave me great views of the geothermal landscape and the valley below. Tip: bring a light jacket — the mountain air can be chilly even if Taipei is warm. Next, I headed to Qingtiangang Grassland, just a short shuttle ride away. I loved walking the loop trail, surrounded by rolling hills and grazing cows. It was peaceful, and the cool breeze made it perfect for photos and a slow stroll. If you’re into easy hikes, this spot is ideal. By lunch, I made my way to Zhuzihu, where I found myself in a sea of blooming calla lilies. It was breathtaking! I even picked a few flowers (many farms let you pick your own for a small fee). I stopped at a cozy flower café for tea and a light lunch with a mountain view. Pro tip: wear waterproof shoes if you plan to walk into the fields — they can get muddy. Yangmingshan in one day gave me nature, beauty, and calm, all just minutes from the city.
