Visit Gunjianyan and visit the Lover's Temple (Zhaoming Zen Temple): Hiking trails in Yangming Chiao Tung University

#MarchGoodPlaces2025 Junjianyan is located in the mountainous area just north of Shipai Veterans General Hospital, with an altitude of 185.6 meters. The hiking trail is about 3 kilometers long and the entire route is about 5.7 kilometers long. The walking time is about 2 hours and 7 minutes. It is a famous mountain in the Datun Mountain Range. The huge rock protruding from the ridge stands among the mountains. At first glance, it looks like a ship on the sea (upper left of Figure 1), hence the name Gunjian Rock. During the Japanese occupation period, it was collectively called the Wujian Mountains together with the Meili'an Mountains, Danfeng Mountains, and Wujian Mountains. The rock field on the top of the mountain is an ideal rock climbing practice site and is also a very popular hiking route. There are two main routes to climb up the Battleship Rock, one from Yangming University and the other from the Veterans General Hospital. The hiking trail leads to the Battleship Rock and the journey is not far, about half an hour. The campuses of National Taiwan University Hospital and National Yang-Ming University are not far from each other, so you can arrange to go right and return left, or go left and return right, which just forms an O-shaped route. The MRT Shipai Station is quite close to both places. I entered from Yang Ming University and enjoyed the beautiful campus. It is rare to find hiking trails within a university, which can encourage college students to exercise more. Figure 16-19-Zhaoming Zen Temple (also known as Lover's Temple) is located on the hillside in front of Junjianyan in Beitou, surrounded by mountains on all sides. The architecture here is quite distinctive. The main temple is like a spire with a dragon coiled on top, which feels very spiritual. The main deity of Zhaomingjing Temple is the "Four-Faced Thousand-Armed Guanyin" who blesses health, marriage, light and wealth. In the past, it was also called the "Lover's Temple" because of the wax figures of the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl on display.
