Taiwan is famous for its hot springs, and among them, the Beitou area is rich in natural hot springs, so there are many hot spring facilities and museums!! As soon as I entered the museum entrance, I felt like I had traveled back in time. The building itself was a Japanese-style building built in 1913, so it had an old atmosphere. The red brick and wood exterior caught my eye, and before entering, I had to take off my shoes and change into indoor slippers. When I went inside, the first thing I saw in the lobby on the first floor was the spacious public bath (大浴場). It is not filled with water now, but it has been restored to its original state, so I could feel the atmosphere of the old public bathhouse. The sunlight coming in from the ceiling softly illuminates the marble bathtub, and it was amazing to imagine how people used to enjoy the hot springs here in the past.😆 The museum consists of the first and second floors. The first floor is where the hot springs were, and the second floor is where various exhibits related to the history of hot springs are displayed. When I went up to the second floor, there was an exhibit explaining the effects of hot springs and the geological characteristics of the Beitou region. In particular, a rare mineral called “Hokuto Stone” was discovered in the Beitou region, and the hot spring water containing this mineral is said to be good for skin health. It is said that this is why Beitou hot springs became even more famous. In addition, the materials on how hot spring culture developed during the Japanese colonial period and how Taiwanese people enjoyed hot springs were also interesting. Looking at old photos and records, I recalled the people who visited here in the past, and it felt even more vivid!!😀 This museum is not just a tourist attraction, but a place where you can deeply understand Taiwan's hot spring culture.
