Visit Historical Temples: Taipei Confucius Temple

Taipei Confucius Temple, donated by the Koo family of Lukang and the Chen Yueji family, began planning in 1925 during the Japanese occupation, covering an area of over 4,000 pings. Construction started in 1927 and was completed in 1939. The architecture is in the Quanzhou style, with Wang Yishun as the chief engineer. It was designated as a municipal monument in the 1990s. The temple features unique Jiǎozhǐ pottery and cut-and-paste decorations from the Minnan region, with Jiǎozhǐ pottery being a distinctive feature of Confucius temples in Taiwan. The main hall of the temple enshrines the tablet of Confucius, the Supreme Sage and Teacher, in the central shrine, with a black plaque inscribed with gold characters reading 'Education for All' hanging above. The walls on either side enshrine the tablets of the Four Correlates (Yan Hui, Zengzi, Zisi, and Mencius) and the Twelve Philosophers. The atmosphere of the temple is solemn and dignified, reflecting the upright spirit of Confucianism.
