Many people know that Taiwan was once ruled by Japan, but few know that it was also a Dutch colony. Chihkan Tower, as the provincial capital fortress during the Dutch rule, is the center of this history. If you want to learn more about the history of Taiwan's past dynasties, you can't miss the Chihkan Tower. ▶️Transportation Take bus No. 3, 5, 77, 88, or 99 to Chihkan Tower ▶️Opening hours: Monday to Sunday: 08:30–21:30 ▶️Ticket price Full ticket is NT$70, half ticket is NT$35, and children under 6 years old are free. ▶️History of Chihkan Tower Chihkan Tower was the provincial capital fortress during the Dutch colonial period in Taiwan. It has been rebuilt many times from the Ming and Qing dynasties to the present day and has become what we see today. When the Dutch first arrived in Taiwan in 1624, they purchased the Chihkan area, which was then called Provintia. Later, after Guo Huai rose up in rebellion to protest against heavy taxes, the Dutch built Chihkan Tower as a fortress. On the top floor of Chikan Tower, there is a statue of Kuixing Ye, one of the Five Wenchangs, who can be said to be the god of examinations. Students can throw the sacred divination blocks to ask for the Wenchang pen, which will bless you to have a smooth exam. After greeting Lord Kuixing and making a wish, you can then throw the sacred divination blocks. If you throw the sacred divination blocks (one positive and one negative), it means you can take it! In addition to being able to worship Lord Kuixing on the second floor of Wenchang Pavilion, you can also enjoy a view of Tainan city streets.
