[Siem Reap, Cambodia] Preah Ang Thom Temple [Sightseeing]

#sightseeing ┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈ 📍Preah Ang Thom Temple (ព្រះអង្គធំ) ┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈ A Buddhist temple located in Kulen National Park. It's about a 5-minute walk from the village at the entrance to Kulen Waterfall. At the entrance to the temple, you will be greeted by a statue of Lord Vishnu (the Hindu god of protection). The approach to the temple is lined with many stone statues of Nagas (snake gods and guardians of water), which are very impressive! Shoes are strictly prohibited inside the temple, so you will need to take them off at the entrance at the end of the approach. It might be a good idea to bring a spare pair of socks. Although it is a Buddhist temple, it is characterized by a mixture of Hinduism and Theravada Buddhism. For a long time, the Angkor Kingdom had Hinduism as its state religion, but in the 14th century it converted to a Buddhist country. Perhaps as a result, statues of Hindu gods are often enshrined in Buddhist temples as well. ┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈ 📍Nirvana Buddha The main attraction is the 8m tall Nirvana Buddha. It was carved out of natural rock. It is enshrined in a hut built on top of a rocky mountain, and you can walk around it. There is a gong for prayers, so you can offer prayers. ┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈ Preah Ang Thom Temple is a well-loved Buddhist temple among locals. When we visited, a monk was chanting a sutra.
