| Unlocking the 3.5km Slow Life of Gusu. The saying goes, "From Qili Shantang to Tiger Hill." On my two previous rushed visits, I only experienced the bustling crowds. Today, alone with a gentle breeze, I decided to measure this legendary "seven-mile" long street (actually about 3.5 kilometers) step by step, walking from Changmen to Tiger Hill, finally touching the soul and breath of Shantang. ✔︎ Starting Point: The Bustling "Shantang Bridge" Here, shops line the streets, with the ancient stage, Yuhan Hall, and the Chamber of Commerce Museum as landmarks. The advantage of visiting on a non-holiday was immediately clear: no jostling crowds, allowing me to leisurely admire the arched gate of Tonggui Bridge, trace the patterns of the white walls and black tiles, and even catch the melodious tunes drifting from the Pingtan opera house—uninterrupted. ✔︎ Deeper In: Crossing the Lively "Xinmin Bridge" After passing the busiest eastern section and crossing Xinmin Bridge, it felt like stepping through a boundary. The western part of Shantang is a stage for local life. Along the cobblestone paths, old houses stand by the river, with vines draping over window frames. The most touching scene unfolded: an elderly woman bent over the stone steps of the riverbank, washing clothes with a wooden mallet, its rhythmic "thud-thud" echoing through time. In that moment, "small bridges, flowing water, and homes" were no longer just textbook poetry but a vivid, steaming slice of life before my eyes. ✔︎ Final Stop: "Wangshan Bridge" at the Foot of the Ancient Pagoda Heading west, I passed historical sites like Pufu Temple and the Shaanxi Guild Hall (now the Suzhou Zodiac Stamp Museum), finally arriving at "Wangshan Bridge" at the base of Tiger Hill. Looking back, the winding river, the continuous stretch of pink walls, and the Tiger Hill Pagoda peeking through the trees became the grandest punctuation to this journey. The entire walk took about two hours, with the gentle breeze making every step a pleasure.
