Lion Grove Garden: Exploring the Kingdom of Rockeries

Lion Grove Garden, located in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, is a representative of Suzhou's classical gardens and is known as the "Kingdom of Rockeries." The garden's rockeries are constructed using Taihu stones characterized by their "transparency, hollowness, slenderness, and wrinkled appearance." These rock formations are arranged in three layers—upper, middle, and lower—and feature nine pathways and 21 openings, resembling a labyrinth full of twists and turns. Many of the stone peaks resemble lions, and visitors can even find depictions of the twelve zodiac animals. In addition to the rockeries, the garden houses ancient structures such as the Yan Yu Hall and Zhen Qu Pavilion, which embody rich cultural heritage.
