In Suzhou, I prefer the quieter Bao'en Temple to Hanshan Temple and Xiyuan Temple. 📍It is located at No. 1918 Renmin Road, Gusu District, Suzhou, Jiangsu Province. ⛩️Temple introduction: Bao'en Temple is also called "Beisi Temple". It is said that it was built by Sun Quan, the Great Emperor of Eastern Wu, to pray for his mother during the Three Kingdoms period (247 - 252 AD). 🧩The tour route is as follows: Enter from the mountain gate, then go to the entrance, first go to the Maitreya Buddha (you can burn incense here), then go to the Beisi Pagoda (walk around the pagoda clockwise), then visit the Bao'en Lecture Hall, the Seven Buddha Hall, the Buddha Hall, the Plum Garden, the Huazang World, the Stone Tablet, and the Guanyin Hall, and finally leave from the east gate. ⭐There are many highlights in the temple: ✔️Beisi Pagoda: It is named after the temple. The temple pagoda was built in the Liang Dynasty of the Southern and Northern Dynasties (502 - 557 AD) and was rebuilt during the Shaoxing period of the Southern Song Dynasty (1131 - 1162 AD). The great poet Su Shi once placed a copper turtle relic in the pagoda. ✔️Seven Buddha Hall: There are seven Buddha statues in the hall, which are to thank the Bodhisattvas in the infinite time and space of the past, present, and future. ✔️Guanyin Hall: It was built in the Southern Song Dynasty and was renovated in the 40th year of the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty (1590 AD). The hall is made of all nanmu wood and is the most complete Ming Dynasty building in Suzhou. ✔️Gusu Prosperity Picture: Also called "Prosperity Picture", it is 32 meters long and occupies the entire wall of the corridor. This picture depicts the prosperous scene of Suzhou during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty. ✔️Zhang Shicheng's Monument (Stone Tablet): Originally named Longwu Statue Stone Carving, it is a rare stone carving work of the Yuan Dynasty. The stone tablet is 3.06 meters high and 1.46 meters wide. The content carved on it is the etiquette scene of Zhang Shicheng entertaining the Yuan envoy Boyan.
