Saionji Temple

Over half a year ago when I visited Saionji Temple, although the ginkgo trees had not yet turned yellow, the maple leaves had already dyed the temple gardens red, which was very beautiful. Now in this early summer season, the colors are shades of green, presenting a different style. The entrance fee for the south gate of Saionji Temple is 5 yuan, and many citizens enter for free through the side east gate. At Saionji Temple, one can explore ancient mysteries: although the 'blood scripture' cannot be seen, one can look for the old monk on the bridge in the relief carvings behind the main hall, wishing him an early escape from suffering; take a look at the Ming dynasty stone archway at the entrance of the Arhat Hall, with its ancient and simple carvings; there are also sculptures of Ji Gong and the Mad Monk, where one can admire the exquisite detail of the Mad Monk's thin waistband. In addition, one can count the Arhats, stroll through the gardens, feed pigeons, pet cats, watch fish, drink tea, and copy scriptures. The vegetarian food in the temple is extremely popular, with queues every day for the affordable and tasty vegetarian noodles. The steamed buns at the entrance are also worth queuing for, with the vegetable buns being particularly delicious. Moreover, the temple's cakes, milk tea, mung bean soup, and zongzi are all very good. It feels like one could easily spend a whole day here leisurely.
