Mudu Ancient Town is located in the southeastern part of Jiangsu Province, to the west of the ancient city of Suzhou, in the Taihu Lake basin. According to legend, at the end of the Spring and Autumn period, during the conflict between Wu and Yue, the defeated state of Yue employed the 'beauty trap' by offering the beautiful Xi Shi to the King of Wu. King Fuchai of Wu favored Xi Shi exclusively and specially built the Guanwa Palace for her on the exquisite Lingyan Mountain top, and also expanded the Gusu Platform on the Purple Stone Mountain. 'Three years to gather materials, five years to complete', the continuously arriving timber blocked the river and port below the mountain, 'wood blocked the stream', hence the name Mudu originated. The scenery within the territory is beautiful, and the products are abundant.
