Museum Tour: Suzhou Silk Museum

The Suzhou Silk Museum is located in the Beisita Scenic Area in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province. It was opened on September 21, 1991. It is a silk professional museum and a national third-level museum. Suzhou, not only the land of fish and rice in the south of the Yangtze River, but also a mansion of silk. It has been the national silk center since the Tang and Song Dynasties. In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, most of the royal silk fabrics were made by Suzhou weavers. The Suzhou Silk Museum has six major exhibition areas: the History Museum, the Modern Museum, the Children's Science Museum, the Sangzi Garden, the Silk Weaving Machinery Exhibition Room, and the Qian Xiaoping Silk Culture Art Museum. The History Museum includes six parts: the Ancient Hall, the Silkworm Mulberry Residence, the Weaving and Dyeing Workshop, the Tribute Weaving Institute, the Republic of China Street, and the Intangible Heritage Hall. In the History Museum, I saw the brocade fragments unearthed in Dulan, Qinghai, which are the same as those seen in the Delingha Museum during the Northwest trip last year, which feels quite magical. There is a performance of traditional loom operation. From the main hall of the History Museum, walk up the steps to the courtyard. The names of the countries passed by the Silk Road are written on the ground, and the entrance is designed as the ancient Silk Road city gate 'Yuyang Pass', which is quite ingenious in layout. The Modern Museum is currently holding the Suzhou-Hangzhou joint exhibition 'In Paradise', and the exhibits are not limited to silk. The rooftop cafe is another good experience to sit in the same frame with the Beisita when the weather is clear.
