Phra Buddha Ajana, the sacred talking Buddha of Sukhothai

🏡 Wat Sri Chum, Sukhothai Province is an ancient religious site in the Sukhothai Historical Park. It is located to the northwest outside the original city walls in Mueang Kao Subdistrict, Mueang Sukhothai District, Sukhothai Province. This temple enshrines a large Buddha statue in the Mara-Vijaya posture, named "Phra Achana". The Buddha statue is enshrined in a pavilion, which has now collapsed, leaving only the surrounding walls without a roof. It remains as an outdoor Buddha statue to this day. 🏛 According to legend, when King Naresuan the Great led his army to suppress the rule in Sawankhalok, they gathered at Wat Sri Chum first. This battle was a battle between Thais, which caused the soldiers to lose their spirits and not want to fight. King Naresuan the Great therefore planned to boost the morale of the soldiers by having one soldier climb up the stairs to the back of the Buddha statue and give them words of encouragement. This is why the legend of the "Talking Buddha" arose. In addition, Wat Sri Chum is a sacred place. The water pouring ceremony to pay homage was also held here. 😉 This is another tourist attraction in Sukhothai Province that you shouldn't miss.
