Tinsulanon Bridge

Tinsulanonda Bridge is the longest concrete bridge in Thailand. It is located in Mueang Songkhla District and Singhanakhon District. It connects Koh Yo on both sides, between Ban Nam Krajai, Mueang Songkhla District and Ban Khao Khieo, Singhanakhon District. The length of the first two sections of the bridge is 940 meters and 1,700 meters, respectively, for a total of 2,640 meters. It was built during the time when General Prem Tinsulanonda was the Prime Minister. The purpose of building this bridge was to accommodate car transportation without having to wait for a car ferry, which was not enough for the rapidly increasing number of cars, which made travel take a long time. Moreover, when crossing the other side, it also caused traffic congestion in the city. Therefore, in 1981, the government had a policy to develop Songkhla Province and Hat Yai District into major cities. The Highways Department was the project owner and a Taiwanese company was the construction operator. It opened for use on December 9, 1984.
