Singapore's Last Kampong

Kampong Lorong Buangkok is Singapore's last remaining kampong on three acres of verdant land in the 21st century. You can take the Bus number 103 from Serangoon Mrt station or walk around 1.5 kilometers 20 minutes from Layar Mrt station. Built in 1956, there are less than 30 families residing here. The sight of old, rural Singapore came to life from the entrance of the kampong itself. The zinc-roofed, wooden houses were a throwback to the past and around us, we could hear chickens clucking away. Most of the electrical cables in Singapore are buried underground. However at Kampong Lorong Buangkok, the cables still run overhead. However, with the increase in high-rise buildings, many kampong houses have been bulldozed, due to the limited land and the increase population. Their future remains are uncertain, so visit this piece of heritage to have a taste of kampong life.
