Calm and Peacefulness Amidst the Busy CBD

Yueh Hai Ching Temple is located along Church Street and is said to be the oldest Taoist temple in Singapore. It was built by the Teochew community in Singapore, to worship and for the people to pray for the safe passage for the seafarers. Multiple restoration work has been done since then to maintain and preserve the facade and interior of the temple. The interesting thing about the temple is that it is located right smack in the middle of Singapore’s Central Business District where you wouldn’t think a temple would exist. The temple was initally on the waterfront but as Singapore developed and more land was reclaimed, the temple got pushed inland. Stepping into the temple from the busy CBD brought about a calm and peacefulness that was surprising with all the tall skyscrapers around. The decorations in the temple are very colourful, intricate and detailed. As phototaking inside the temple is prohibited, you’ll have to come to see for yourself.
