This mosque was built in 1824 to honor Sultan Hussein Shah, the first Sultan of Singapore. At that time, Sir Stamford Raffles, the founding father of modern Singapore, donated $3,000 to build a single-storey building with a double roof. A hundred years later, this old mosque has fallen into disrepair. The mosque that we see today was designed by architect Denis Santry from Swan and Maclaren, Singapore's oldest architectural firm, and was rebuilt in 1932. #wattosann
