One reason I chose to stay at Wasabi Hostel Nagoya (yes, that’s the real name!) was its location — just steps from Nagoya Station, making day trips super easy. Normally, I love exploring on my own using trains & buses, but this time I realized that reaching both Takayama and Shirakawa-go in a single day would be tricky. So I joined an organized tour… and honestly, it was a great decision. The bus ride itself was beautiful, with a stop for a quick break and views of autumn foliage 🍂. First stop: Takayama, a charming town with preserved streets, wooden houses, and a timeless atmosphere. Wandering here felt like stepping back in history. But the highlight? Shirakawa-go — the UNESCO World Heritage village famous for its steep, thatched-roof farmhouses 🏡. Even in the rain, it was magical. I rushed up the hill to catch the panoramic view of the village, and it honestly felt like something out of a storybook ✨. Of course, one day isn’t enough to see everything, but this trip gave me a perfect taste. If you have more time, staying overnight in Takayama or Shirakawa-go would make it even more special.
