Shiogama Shrine - A Must-Visit Attraction in Miyagi, Japan

The Shiogama Shrine, located in Shiogama City, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan, is an exceptional shrine outside of the system, and serves as the Ichinomiya (primary shrine) of the Mutsu Province. This shrine is the head shrine of approximately 110 Shiogama Shrines across Japan. During the Meiji era, the Shiwahiko Shrine, which was an official shrine within the system, was relocated to this site. Now, both shrines reside within the same precincts, collectively known as Shiwahiko Shrine & Shiogama Shrine. Formerly classified as a National Shrine of Medium Rank, it is currently listed as a separate shrine by the Association of Shinto Shrines, with the 'Shiogama Sakura' as its emblematic crest.
