Liaoning Provincial Museum is the first museum established after the founding of the People's Republic of China. It was established on July 7, 1949, and was originally named the Northeast Museum. In 1959, it was renamed the Liaoning Provincial Museum. In 2008, it was rated as a national first-class museum, and in 2009, it was listed as a national museum jointly built by the central and local governments. The new Liaoning Provincial Museum is divided into five areas: exhibition, visitor service, cultural relics storage, cultural relics protection, and comprehensive business. The exhibition area is divided into three floors, with 22 modern exhibition halls. The museum has nearly 120,000 cultural relics, including tens of thousands of precious cultural relics, mainly archaeological artifacts and historical and artistic relics from the Liaoning region, divided into 20 categories, including calligraphy, painting, silk embroidery, bronze, and ceramics.
