Guoqi Island - Best Escape from Busy Shanghai!

I really loved my stay in Guoqi Islands, this is a fantastic place to do a short break from Shanghai. Let me share my findings and tips: 1. Best to come for 2 night, so you have one full day and a bit extra. There is a bus going from the city center, if you drive just come to the port and park there. Port is very efficient, parking is big, long bridge is a sight seeing bonus on the way there 2. There are fast boat (1 hour) and slow boats (3 hours) also one in the middle. The boat WeChat app did not support foreign passports, so best get a good hotel and ask them to buy tickets for you, have to do this well in advance 3. For hotel we stayed in Sea Cliff Hotel. It is modern with all rooms looking at the sea. Nice restaurant working flexible hours. Great management that very well look after every guest. They arranged for us a pick up taxi and then we used this taxi for most of our island rides. 4. Sunset bay in GanXieCun. Come for coffee to meet the sunset in the famous coffee shop, then walk down to the bay and see some fisherman coming home with fish by the end of the day 5. Start next day with Eastern Cliff. Fantastic Wow views to capture without a rush, have some rest in a coffee shop before leaving to next place. 6. Howtouwan - the ghost village. Best to get a taxi there as it is located over steep hill. First come and enjoy the viewing platform. Then get into the first bay. The best part to me was the second bay, very few people come there and much more authentic. There is also a boat going from there, check in advance when it operates, so you can save energy on climbing back to the exit and see the place from the sea. Village is great for afternoon and I suggest enjoy it without rush. Sun coming down creates lots of great views. There is some water and snacks in the first bay stop, enough to rest and keep exploring 7. For dinner and evening I advise Daiwangcun Beach area. There is a famous fish street, couple of bigger sea view restaurants, coffee place and couple of bars. Best way to spend your evenings. 8. The sea on the island is clean, not like in Shanghai, should be great over summer! Hope it helps. I loved the place, will come again, maybe with friends for swimming.
