Zhoushan Archipelago is located in the middle of China's coastline, which not only has a wealth of deep-water shoreline resources but also serves as a major maritime gateway for Eastern China and the Yangtze River Basin to the world. It is these advantages that give Zhoushan a unique position in China's marine economy. The concept of the marine economy is both ancient and brand new. With the vigorous implementation of China's national marine strategy and the in-depth development of the marine economy, Zhoushan's status and role will become increasingly prominent. Zhoushan is an area in our country with very rich deep-water shoreline resources and extremely favorable conditions for port construction. The total length of deep-water shoreline suitable for port development is 280 kilometers, accounting for 55.2% of Zhejiang Province and 18.4% of the nation. Its port resources can accommodate a wharf berth throughput of over one billion tons per year. In recent years, the Zhoushan Archipelago has been undergoing a 'crazy' 'island-connecting project'. This is because the most economically developed Yangtze River Delta actually has a major shortcoming—the coastal cross-sea passage is a 'C'-shaped channel with a gap. This gap is located at our country's largest archipelago—Zhoushan. This world's largest island-mainland connection project has turned the archipelago into a peninsula, connecting Ningbo to the south and Shanghai to the north, thus transforming the Yangtze River Delta's cross-sea channel from 'C' to 'O' and forming a super large closed loop.
