A Literal Hole-in-the-Wall Cafe!

The storefront of Hinichijou is a gray, concrete wall. There’s no door or entrance—all ordering is done online. You might notice that within the concrete wall is a hole about the size of a bowling ball. Once your drink has been prepared, a server wearing a fluffy artificial bear claw will call out your number and hand it to you through the hole. Hinichijou was opened last December on the International Day of People with Disabilities by three friends with the objective of spreading awareness and advocating for disabled rights. Keeping along this track, the professionally trained baristas at the shop are hearing impaired and were all hired through China Disabled Persons’ Federation. Scan the QR code near the hole to browse through the menu and place your order. Eight different drinks are available in total, all of them including coffee. Here’s what we liked most: Coconut Coffee – Medium roast coffee with coconut milk and floral accents. It might sound a bit strange but the combination works quite well. Rose Latte – A fragrant, floral flavor infused into a classic latte. Topped with rose petals. Champion Latte – A standard, nice tasting cup of coffee for a good price. Consider getting one without ice. When the shop opens at 11 AM, the first person to place an order is greeted by the manager and given flowers. On the day we visited, we were lucky to snag the first spot and receive an entire bouquet!
