Located not far from

Located not far from Fudan University is used bookstore that looks nondescript from the outside, but is full of hidden gems. In business for over 20 years, Fudan Secondhand Books has two floors and countless stacks of used books đŸ“šđŸ“šđŸ“š. The fun of the experience is rummaging through the shelves or the piles of books on the floor (and steps leading up to the second floor) in search of a book that piques your interest. You’ll find books covering topics ranging from engineering and history to poetry and comics. Due to its location next to some of Shanghai’s most well-known universities, you’re sure to run into a few students and professors during your visit. While many of the books are in Chinese, some foreign language books can also be found. Prices are often cheaper than Taobao. Because of planned renovations on Zhengsu Road (the street the store is located on), the book store has been asked to close or relocate within the next two months. If you’re interested, be sure to make the trip over before it’s too late. Fudan Second Hand Books 📍 Location: 2nd Floor, 55 Zhengsu Road, Yangpu District 🚇 Metro: Around 10 mins by foot from exit 4 of Guoquan Road station on line 10 #shanghaistyle #shanghaichic #bookstore #bookshop #cool #lightthecity#urbanexplorer

The first branch of its kind to open in Shanghai, Tsutaya Books 📚 can be found in Columbia Circle in a villa that used to be the residence of Sun Yat Sen’s son. The store has been open for a just couple of months but has already taken Chinese social media by storm. A number of unique books can be found in Tsutaya - many of which we haven’t really found at other bookstores. Among them, there’s a particularly large selection of books related to art, as well as architecture and design. There’s also a small section of books in English. The store’s interior is characterized by narrow hallways and old fashioned woodwork, offering a contrast to many of Shanghai's newly opened, ultramodern stores. It’s worth a visit even if to just check out the architecture. Sculptures and other pieces of art can be found scattered among the shelves and shelves of books. A cafĂ© can be found on the first floor just as you walk in. On the second floor, you’ll find a restaurant with Japanese-American style fusion cuisine. Try out dishes like gyoza hot wings , beer steamed mussels, and cheese ebi chili. Cocktails with literature-inspired names are also on the menu, like Between Calmness and Passion and Theory of Relativity. A meal with drinks will average out at around CNY300 per person. In all of its splendor, this bookstore is quite popular among locals looking for the next insta-worthy shot. For this reason, you’ll have to make a reservation in advance on the store’s WeChat mini program if you want to visit. 📍 Location: Columbia Circle, 1262 West Yan’an Road ⏰ Hours: 10:00–23:00 #shanghaistyle #shanghaichic #bookstore #bookshop  #lightthecity#urbanexplorer#hipsterbookstore

Shanghai Tower

Duoyun Books 📚 is a fairly new hotspot located in the tallest building in the city, the Shanghai Tower. With floor-to-ceiling windows, you’ll be able to browse through over a collection over 60,000 books and catch views of the Huangpu River skyline. When you get there, enter the Shanghai Tower from entrance 2 on the first floor. Show your online reservation code, and the attendant will escort you to the 52nd floor where you’ll enter the bookstore. The store itself is separated into two sections, each with a distinct design and atmosphere. With natural light coming in from the huge windows, the white section feels airy and bright, fitted with arched shelves and stacks of books. Further inside is the cave-like black section, where you’ll find art displays and a selection of gifts among the books. If you’re lucky enough to visit on a day with nice weather, be sure to try and snag a window seat – the views are pretty amazing. The bookstore has a cafĂ© where one drink will set you back around 30 to 40 RMB. It tends to get pretty full on the weekends, so we recommend going during the week if you’re looking for a more peaceful, quiet bookstore experience. Location: Level 52 of the Shanghai Tower, 501 Middle Yincheng Road Hours: Mon–Sun, 10:00–21:00 Tip: Be sure to make a reservation in advance on the “侖çșȘ朔äș‘” WeChat official page. Be prepared for weekend crowds. #shanghaistyle #shanghaichic #bookstore #book #lightthecity#urbanexplorer#hipsterbookstore

Liquid Laundry

đŸ—“ïž Today's recommendation is Liquid Laundry: A famous 📾 American-style restaurant in Shanghai The interior has a sort of modern industrial design with a steampunk style. The day’s sunshine đŸŒ€ïž was the perfect complement to a delicious brunch. Here are some must-try dishes: 🍳 Eggs Benedict with Smoked Beef Brisket -- This is a Liquid Laundry signature dish and a staple of American brunch. The brisket was tender and moist with just the right amount of flavor. This dish is only available on the weekend. đŸ„ž Lox Potato Pancake -- At first you might wonder if they forgot the pancake, which comes hidden under a sizable portion of delicious lox topped with pickle garnish, an egg, and dollop of caviar. The potato pancake struck the right balance between crunchy outside and tender inside. This dish is also only available on the weekend. đŸ„— Fancy Nicoise Salad -- The salad is a mix of greens and other vegetables and served with seared tuna in a lemon tarragon-Dijon dressing. Personally the searing on the tuna was a bit overdone. The taste is refreshing, but watch out if you don’t like a lot of dressing. 🍓 Strawberry Waffle -- Another Liquid Laundry signature dish, this was a sweet sweet ending to a good meal. The waffle was crisp and tender, and the strawberries were fresh. It’s a good choice for dessert. 🍾 Service -- The menu design is rather iconic with an old-timey washboard on the back. The wait staff were spread a bit thin though, and it was sometimes hard to get their attention for refills on drinks or to order more food. 💳Price -- About 150 RMB per person. 📍 Address -- 2/F, KWah Centre, 1028 Huaihai Zhong Lu, near Donghu Lu, Xuhui District (æ·źæ”·äžè·Ż1028ć·ć˜‰ćŽćŠ2愌, èż‘äžœæč–è·Ż) 🚇 Transportation -- Metro Line 7 to Changshu Road Station, exit 6. Or Line 12 to Shanxi South Road Station, exit 7. #shanghaistyle #shanghaichic #foodieheaven #deliciousfood #lightthecity #urbanexplorer

Single Person is a furniture shop with a cave-like entrance located on Yongkang Road in the French Concession. While everything found in the shop is technically available to buy, the overall atmosphere and feeling is reminiscent of walking through a museum đŸ–Œïž. The shop’s warm lighting creates a cozy atmosphere for furniture browsing. Most of the objects found in the store are quite unique; you’ll find decorative crystal pieces 🔼, scented candles đŸ•Żïž, antique light fixtures, old-style glasses 👓, women’s accessories, and much more. If you’re looking for something practical or to put on display in your apartment, there’s a good chance you’ll find some hidden treasures at Single Person. Reservations are generally required for entry, but if you happen upon the store at a time when there aren’t many other shoppers, you’ll still be let in. Either way, ring the doorbell and you’ll be greeted by a friendly shopkeeper who’ll open the door and guide you inside. A shopkeeper will also let you out when you’re ready to leave. Pictures aren’t permitted inside the store 😭, so instead, focus on the experience and check out everything in detail. Shanghai Angola Giant Rabbit Theme Park

If you’re looking to try something that you've probably never done before, head to East Nanjing Road and spend some time up close and personal with animals. At Nice to Meet U, you’ll encounter a cutely designed cafĂ© filled with giant Angora rabbits 🐇. A bit of a departure from the cat cafĂ© trend that swept through Asia years ago, giant Angora rabbits are a type of friendly pet rabbits that weigh around 10 pounds each. The furry friends can be held (as you would with a baby) and played with gently 🐰. They’re so fluffy that they sometimes end up looking like stuffed toys in photos. These bunnies are used to interacting with visitors and aren't as skittish as you might think they'd be. Plus, what would this experience be without some cute props to take pictures with 📾? You’ll find mini pastel shopping carts where the bunnies can sit, plus outfits for the bunnies and bunny ear headbands for you and your friends. The atmosphere here is calming and just simply enjoyable 😊. CNY88 will get you a drink ☕ and dessert 🍰 + 60 minutes âČ of bunny 🐰 interaction time 😁. Marienbad Cafe

While new cafĂ©s seem to pop around the city on a daily basis, this coffee shop has been established in the Shanghai scene for over 16 years. Notably, there was one time when the shop was facing closure, but it got back on its feet thanks to help from loyal fans. With a display of wine bottles đŸ·, closely arranged tables, and a warm ambiance, this venue has a European-style vibe. The cafĂ© itself is small, but it has a lot to offer. Looking for somewhere to enjoy a cozy afternoon? This is the place. Lazing around on the weekend and want some brunch favorites? Or maybe a late night dinner and glass of wine? Head over to Marienbad. If you happen upon nice weather, consider getting a table on the open patio. It’s perfect for people watching. #coffeeshop #coffeelover #shanghaistyle #shanghaichic  Marienbad CafĂ© Location: 55 Wukang Road, near Anfu Road Hours: 10:00–22:00 #lightthecity#urbanexplorer#cafĂ©

If you find yourself lingering around the usual expat hotspots in Jing'an looking for somewhere new to grab a drink 🍾, head over to Bar Flow. On the street level, you’ll have to figure out where the door đŸšȘ is and how exactly to get inside. Be prepared for it to take a few minutes (we’d tell you, but it’d only spoil the fun 🙃). Making your way in, you’ll enter a retro space that feels somewhat reminiscent of a bar you might find in Hong Kong 🇭🇰. With red mood lighting and cursivey neon characters accenting the walls, the overall atmosphere is cozy and enjoyable. Aside from the bar area, there’s a retro hair salon and sitting area with retro dĂ©cor and props 👍. Most likely set up for selfies đŸ€ł, this bar is practically screaming for you to pose for a silly picture 📾. Bar Flow has a tiny menu of signature cocktails 🍾 – the most popular one includes a splash of maotai. Some drinks are even served in traditional Chinese teacups đŸ”. One drink will set you back around CNY100. Some fun bar snacks are available too, like nuts đŸ„œ arranged in a traditional soap box and instant noodles 🍜 with shot of alcohol dashed into the soup. The venue works for pre-gaming and is also a neat place to hang out late-night đŸ€Ș. Definitely worth a stop if you’re in the Wuding Road area.
