This exhibition is considered the largest ever held outside Egypt, with most artifacts never before displayed in Asia. It tells historical stories through 3 themes:
1️⃣ THE LAND OF THE PHARAOHS
The first part of the exhibition begins with the myth of the world's creation, focusing on two key symbols of ancient Egyptian civilization: temples and pyramids. This zone presents an overview of ancient Egypt in various aspects, including cosmology, social systems, craftsmanship, hieroglyphic writing, religious beliefs, and burial rituals, covering both daily life and the spiritual world of the Egyptians.
2️⃣ THE SECRETS OF SAQQARA
Saqqara is the most important necropolis of Memphis and the site of Egypt's first pyramid. This zone displays significant discoveries from Saqqara and tells the story of the evolution of religious rituals, such as cat mummies, worship of sacred animals, offerings to the goddess Bastet (cat goddess), and burial customs of priests serving the goddess Bastet.
3️⃣ THE AGE OF TUTANKHAMUN
Pharaoh Tutankhamun died at only 19 years old. His tomb was discovered in 1922, with over 5,000 artifacts excavated. The most famous is the golden mask, which has become one of the most recognized symbols of ancient Egypt worldwide. This zone takes us back to the birth of the god Amun and the religious reform from monotheism back to Egypt’s polytheism. The exhibition also discusses traditional beliefs during Tutankhamun’s reign, helping us understand the lifestyle of Egyptians in the 14th century BC.
If you're going to Shanghai during this time, you must book your tickets quickly. If you wait too long, you’ll miss out 😌
