Historic Shanghai Building - Bank of East Asia Building

Located at the intersection of Jiujiang Road and Sichuan Middle Road (299 Sichuan Middle Road) in Huangpu District, Shanghai, the Bank of East Asia Building was built in 1926 after being purchased and constructed by the Bank of East Asia from Hong Kong. The building was designed by Hungarian architect Charles Henry Gonda, whose Chinese name was "Hong Da." It is Shanghai's first historic preservation building to receive the LEED V4 Gold certification, combining century-old historical features with modern design concepts and environmental standards. Its unique architectural style adopts the Art Deco style that was popular in Paris at the time, making it stand out among the many buildings along the Bund. Since its completion, the Bank of East Asia Building has been continuously used by the Bank of East Asia until today. It has become a cultural landmark in the modern metropolis. Inside the building, visitors are captivated by the 24-meter marble counter, white spiral staircase, and well-preserved vault and safe deposit box room.
