On November 27, 1987, it was officially opened to the public during the 60th anniversary of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, becoming the first musical instrument museum in our country's art colleges. In 2001, the museum was renamed the 'Oriental Musical Instrument Museum', with the museum name inscribed by Comrade He Luting. It is now a 'National Ethnic Unity and Progress Education Base', 'Shanghai Patriotic Education Base', and 'Xuhui District Science Popularization Base'.
