The meeting of modern architectural heritage and luxury brands Shinsegae The Heritage, which opened on April 9, has been a hot topic. Shinsegae purchased the building built in 1935 and transformed it into a shopping and cultural space after preserving and restoring it for 10 years. As you can guess from its exterior that shows the passage of time, Shinsegae The Heritage was built in 1935 and was designated as a tangible cultural property of Seoul in recognition of its value as a modern architectural heritage. After liberation, it was used as the former headquarters of Jeil Bank, and Shinsegae, after consulting with members of the National Heritage Committee, restored it to about 90% of its original state in 1935. The building is in the Western classical style, and its stone exterior has a majestic yet elegant beauty. You can feel the beauty of modern architecture in every detail, such as the flower-shaped plaster relief on the ceiling and the tiles on the stairs. The Chanel store was completed by architect Peter Marino, who has collaborated with the brand for a long time, and was inspired by Madame Chanel's apartment and the Art Deco-style staircase at 31 Rue Cambon in Paris, creating a space that combines modern architecture and Parisian sensibility. Currently, the first and second floors of Shinsegae The Heritage are a Chanel store, the fourth floor is The Heritage Museum where you can learn about the architectural restoration process and history, the fifth floor is a cafe where you can enjoy Korean desserts and tea, and the sixth floor of House of Shinsegae is a terrace.
