The Heunghwamun Gate

#seoulattractions This Heunghwamun Gate was made as a palace gate by Gwanghaegun when he built Gyeonghuigung Palace. It is said that the reason why Heunghwamun Gate was built as a small one-story palace compared to the large and two-story gates of other palaces is because Gyeonghuigung Palace is a separate palace. It is presumed that this Heunghwamun Gate suffered a lot of damage as it was moved to another location when Gyeonghuigung Palace was destroyed by the Japanese, and was relocated and restored to its current location as part of the Gyeonghuigung Palace restoration plan in 1988.
