Seoul｜Modern historical sites of Japanese architects in Seoul Bank of Korea Monetary and Financial Museum

While strolling in Myeongdong, I accidentally came across this quaint building. The guard warmly invited me to come in for a visit. This is the Bank of Korea Currency Museum, right in front of the fountain on the edge of Myeongdong. This building was designed and built in 1912 by Japanese architect Kingo Tatsuno, who was a popular architect in Japan at the time. Tokyo Station and the Bank of Japan Headquarters were both designed by him. It adopts the 20th century Renaissance castle architecture, with a majestic facade and high and bright interiors, giving people the illusion of being transported abroad in an instant. When it was built, it was used as the headquarters of the Bank of Korea. After the liberation of Korea, the Bank of Korea was dissolved and became the central bank of South Korea - the Bank of Korea. It has now been transformed into a currency museum, which houses more than 20,000 currencies from around the world. There is a permanent currency exhibition on the first floor, covering the cultural history of currency, the coin making process, and the collection of lead plates of banknotes from that time. There is also a pyramid of golden coins in the center of the hall.
