Akiu Sōan in Miyagi

Akiu Sōan is nestled in the beautiful natural surroundings of Akiu, offering meticulously crafted ni-hachi soba (80% buckwheat, 20% wheat) and juwari soba (100% buckwheat), as well as dishes made with locally sourced ingredients. The restaurant uses Hitachi Aki Soba, one of the highest-quality buckwheat varieties in Japan, and employs a method that maximizes its aroma. Located further into the Akiu hot spring area, often referred to as the "inner sanctum of Sendai," the restaurant is just before Akiu Great Falls. Having recently reopened after renovations, the establishment is very clean and features a lovely open-ceiling design. We ordered the tempura soba and tempura rice bowl. The soba had a firm texture and a rich buckwheat flavor. The tempura was perfectly fried to a light and crispy finish, making it absolutely delicious. If you visit Akiu Onsen, be sure to stop by!
