I just came back from an exciting trip to Hainan, and now I’m sharing this fresh treasure guide with you so your Hainan trip can be perfect too! Preparation Documents: ID card, student ID (don’t forget if you have discounts), driver’s license (a must if you want to drive yourself). Clothing: Hainan is warm all year round, so summer clothes are the main choice. Bring lightweight, breathable short sleeves, shorts, and dresses. Also pack a thin jacket for the temperature difference in the morning and evening or for air-conditioned rooms. Don’t forget swimwear, swim caps, and beach shoes, since the beach and water activities are the highlights of coming to Hainan! Skincare: High SPF sunscreen (the sun in Hainan is really strong), after-sun repair masks, moisturizing lotion, sunglasses, sun hats, and umbrellas—fully prepare for sun protection and hydration. Medicine: Stomach medicine, cold medicine, fever medicine, motion sickness pills, and insect bite remedies—better to be prepared. Best Travel Time Hainan has a warm climate. Except for typhoon season (July to September), other times are great to visit. November to April is the peak tourist season, with comfortable weather and plenty of sunshine, perfect for vacationing. However, there are more tourists and hotel prices are higher then. If you want to avoid crowds and high prices, May to June and October are also good choices. The temperature is a bit higher, but hotels and flights are more affordable. Transportation Guide External Transportation Plane: Most people choose to fly to Haikou Meilan International Airport or Sanya Phoenix International Airport. Both airports have many flights and convenient transportation. Internal Transportation Bus: Can reach many attractions but routes and schedules may not be very flexible. Taxi/Ride-hailing: Convenient but may face traffic jams and price surges during peak season. Car Rental & Self-driving: Highly recommended! You can arrange your itinerary freely, go wherever you want, and stop anytime to enjoy the scenery along the way. Must-visit Attractions Sanya ● Yalong Bay Tropical Paradise Forest Park🌳: Filming location of "If You Are the One 2." Here you can overlook the stunning sea view of Yalong Bay, stroll through the rainforest, and feel the freshness and tranquility of nature. Be sure to walk across the Jianglong Suspension Bridge for an exciting high-altitude walk. ● Wuzhizhou Island🏝️: Crystal-clear water and soft sandy beaches make it a paradise for diving enthusiasts. The island also offers many water activities like jet skiing, banana boats, and parasailing, letting you fully enjoy the fun on the sea. If you have time, stay overnight on the island to watch the beautiful sunrise and sunset. ● Tianya Haijiao🌊: Home to the love-symbolizing Tianya Stone and Haijiao Stone, a must-visit spot for couples. Walk along the coastline, feel the sea breeze, and enjoy the beautiful sea view—very romantic. Haikou ● Qilou Old Street🏘️: The most distinctive street in Haikou, featuring Nanyang-style architecture and rich historical culture. Here you can taste various Hainan specialties like Qingbuliang, coconut chicken, and Baoluo noodles, experiencing the local life of Haikou. ● Holiday Beach🌞: A great place for Haikou residents and tourists to relax and vacation. You can swim, sunbathe, play in the sand, and enjoy fresh seafood. There are also some street performances at night, making it lively. Wanning ● Shimei Bay🌴: Beautiful beaches, dense green forests, and clear water make it a very quiet and beautiful place. You can walk on the beach, collect shells, or go diving at nearby Jiajing Island to explore the underwater world. ● Riyue Bay🏄‍♂️: A famous surfing spot in China, hosting various surfing competitions every year. The waves here are perfect for surfing, whether you are a beginner or an expert. If you don’t surf, you can watch the pros’ amazing performances on the beach and feel the charm of surfing. Food Recommendations ● Coconut Chicken🥥: Soup made with fresh coconut water and chicken, delicious and nutritious. Be sure to pair it with Hainan’s special dipping sauce of sand ginger, lime, and soy sauce—the taste is amazing! ● Qingbuliang🍧: A Hainan specialty dessert made from coconut milk, red beans, green beans, barley, sago, fruits, and more. It has a rich texture and is very refreshing. ● Hainan Rice Noodles🍜: Thin and long rice noodles served with dried beef, peanuts, bean sprouts, pickled vegetables, and special braised sauce. The flavor is rich and very tasty. ● Hele Crab🦀: A specialty of Wanning, with tender crab meat and full crab roe. Delicious steamed or stir-fried spicy. Accommodation Suggestions Sanya You can choose to stay in Yalong Bay, Haitang Bay, or Sanya Bay. Yalong Bay hotels are more upscale, with excellent beaches and water quality; Haitang Bay is close to the duty-free shops, convenient for shopping; Sanya Bay is near the city center, convenient for transportation and dining. Haikou You can stay near Qilou Old Street or Binhai Avenue. Near Qilou Old Street you can experience Haikou’s historical culture, and near Binhai Avenue you can enjoy beautiful sea views. Wanning Both Riyue Bay and Shimei Bay have many guesthouses and hotels to choose from. Riyue Bay is suitable for surfing enthusiasts, while Shimei Bay is better for those seeking a quiet vacation.
